While the title may seem a bit un-inviting, I am excited to post blog content on this website to reflect on 7 novels I will be reading for an honors seminar. It's called Surviving Apocalypse, and the class is comprised of students across many majors. I am excited to interact in this topic with an inter-disciplinary focus, since the topic itself is broad and complex.
My familiarity with apocalypse so far is largely rooted in pop culture. I consider myself a Walking Dead enthusiast, and I'm also a fan of apocalypse narratives seen in Bird Box and Walle. The Walking Dead in particular has helped me form insights about how dangerous humans are and what kind of power they have into deciding their own fates and personal apocalypse, despite being surrounded by the aftermath of a zombie outbreak. I do find the walkers quite terrifying, but characters like the Governor or Negan or Alpha are real life threats that can exist in a zombie-infested world or not. Power complex is key in these characters, and I am looking forward to expand my knowledge of understanding apocalypse in the novels included in this seminar.
This website will include blog posts about the novels in addition to a page dedicated to a final project that will be posted at a later date.
